Hailey’s Nursery

Ever since I was pregnant with Hailey, I’ve all the sudden regained my interest in sewing. As my mom would say, I was never very good at it, but Hailey has inspired me to polish up my craftsmanship.

I had seen similar mobiles and really thought they were cute. A friend said “you could make these” and she was right! They actually weren’t too hard. I made a template in Illustrator, bought some felt and began cutting and hand-stitching them together. Bob actually cut the wooden branches off some trees in our backyard.

The flags were a fun no sew project. I just made a simple template, cut out the fabric with a scalloped rotary cuter and used iron-on fusing to attach it to ribbon.

I had a hard time finding artwork to match her room, so I ended up illustrating some and framing them. It was really fun to personalize them with phrases like Dream Big, Set Sail and Spread Your Wings.

We also included a fun alphabet illustration. This typography style was also used for her shower invitations and thank you cards.

Bob’s late Grandpa Ted built this for them when they were kids. This is the picture that shows Bob’s work in progress on refinishing it for Hailey. It was bittersweet to work on something that Grandpa had built as he just passed away before he had a chance to meet Hailey.

Dottie the bunny was the inspiration for it all. Momma Martin and Christina helped me pair Dottie’s look and feel with fabrics for Hailey’s room.
